Teenager dies after alleged assault in Claremorris

AN investigation is underway this morning into the death of a teenager in south Mayo.

The 17-year-old boy died following an alleged assault at a house in Claremount Manor on the Knock Road in Claremorris at around 3 a.m.

Gardaí confirmed a male juvenile has been arrested and is being held at Claremorris Garda station.

The teenager’s body remains at the scene and the Office of the State Pathologist has been notified.

A forensic examination of the scene is taking place.

It is reported the victim was originally from eastern Europe but had been living in Co. Mayo for a number of years.
