Castlebar flag flying high in the Lebanon

AN Taoiseach Enda Kenny has made a Christmas week visit to the 198 Irish peacekeeping troops serving in the Lebanon.

He was accompanied on the trip by Vice Admiral Mark Mellett, Chief of Staff of the Defence Forces, a native of Castlebar.

There to welcome the government delegation was another Castlebar man, Lieutenant Colonel Brendan McGuinness, Officer Commanding, 51st Infantry Group, United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon.

The person who took the photograph was Jack O'Donnell, a member of An Taoiseach's press team. He hails from Newport Road, Castlebar.
