Search is ongoing for missing man in Mayo

A SEARCH is ongoing in Ballina for a man missing from the Moycourt area of the town.

The name of the missing man, who is in his 30s, has not yet been released.

Gardaí, who are leading the search operation, were assisted today by the coastguard, the Moy search and rescue group and members of the Granuaile Sub Aqua Club.

Gardai are appealing for landowners along the River Moy and the Moy estuary to check any vacant properties and lands along the river.

However, they are stressing that the River Moy is dangerously high at present and are appealing for caution in the area.

In addition gardaí stated they do not want any organised or planned search parties to undertake a search until they have contacted the gardai.
