Search for missing Mayo man to resume at first light

THE search will resume at first light tomorrow (Sunday) for a 39-year-old Ballina man who has been missing since yesterday.

An extensive search took place today in the north Mayo town, along the River Moy and along the seashore at Rathkeel, Enniscrone, Lacken and Kilcommin. The coastguard helicopter was involved in the search throughout the day. 

Gardaí divers worked alongside members of the Granuaile Sub Aqua Club in the search of the River Moy in an operation headed by Superintendent Joe Doherty.

Supt. Doherty told The Connaught Telegraph this evening: 'We are very thankful to all the members of the public who have helped out.

'But I wish to stress that the River Moy is very high at present and I appeal to everybody involved to exercise caution and wear high-visibility vests at all times. All search parties should contact us in advance.'

The name of the missing man is not being released at this stage.
