Protestors chanting 1916 Proclamation disrupt 'repo' court

REPOSSESSION proceedings at Castlebar Circuit Court were disrupted for a short period by protestors this morning (Wednesday).

The activists, who persisted in loudly reading the contents of the 1916 Proclamation, refused repeated requests by the county registrar, Fintan Murphy, to desist.

The court rose briefly due to the continued clamour and when it resumed the interruptions continued.

A large number of gardaí were on duty in the body of the courtroom. Anybody who persisted to interrupt was individually removed from the chamber and the clamour continued outside on the courtroom steps.

One of those ejected from the court was Stephen Manning, a leading activist with Integrity Ireland, who said the protests were peaceful to highlight what he claimed were ongoing daily abuses of the law and the Constitution in the country's courts of justice.

Court proceedings concluded shortly after midday. There were no arrests.

Afterwards, about 40 protestors took to the streets of Castlebar for a vociferous protest about the justice system at a number of locations, including Castlebar Garda Station and Taoiseach Enda Kenny's constituency office.

One order for repossession was granted at today's hearings.
