Landmark Mayo building under new ownership

A LANDMARK building in Castlebar town centre is under new ownership.

The prominent, if now empty, stone building in Hoban’s car park, which the late businessman and developer Tony McHugh once had earmarked for a ‘superpub’, has been sold to members of a local enterprise group, The Connaught Telegraph has learned.

Sources close to the purchasers said it’s too early to say what the exact plans for the structure are but it’s a prime location and would be suitable for a variety of business ventures, from retail to hospitality.

The late Tony McHugh had ambitious plans for a themed pub at the location back in the early 1990s.

That was at a time when the bar trade locally and nationally was booming.
