Garda chief reports a drop in Mayo burglaries
THE Chief Superintendent for the Mayo Garda Division has reported a drop last year in the number of burglaries and robberies in the county.
Speaking to elected members of Mayo County Council, Chief Supt. Pat Diskin outlined a 6% fall in burglaries across the county in 2015 and a 60% reduction in robberies compared to 2014.
Despite the reduction in crime figures, a number of elected members expressed concerns in relation to crime in rural areas.
Chief Supt. Diskin said he wants increased visibility of gardaí in all rural areas, particularly where local garda stations have closed.
