Dunnes Stores workers in Westport concerned for their jobs

UNCONFIRMED reports are emerging this morning that Dunnes Stores is planning to close its Westport store at the end of next week.

Staff at the shop were informed earlier this week that the stop, located at Castlebar Street in the town, will shut on March 5 with staff being offered redundancy or redeployment at the Castlebar store 12 miles away.

However, some of the 20 staff are concerned that they may not be offered the same number of hours if they transfer to Castlebar.

A statement is expected to be made shortly by the supermarket chain.
