Voting brisk in Mayo this morning
VOTERS have been quick to make their mark in Mayo this morning, with voter turnout running at 12% in a number of areas by mid-morning.
In Taoiseach Enda Kenny's home town, there was a 12% turnout at St. Patrick's NS and Scoil Raifteiri by 11.30 a.m., with 11% recorded at St. Anthony's School. It begs the question, is Castlebar and the county turning out in force to retain their Taoiseach or is there a mood for change in the air?
Rural areas reported a 12% turnout by mid-morning, as did Swinford NS and Ballina Boys NS.
Topping the poll at 12.5% was Scoil Phadraig NS in Westport.
Other voting centres to return figures were Foxford NS (8.5%) and Scoil Iosa, Ballyhaunis (9%).
