John O'Mahony

O'Mahony is in the running in Galway West constituency

JOHN O'Mahony is fighting hard to remain a member of Dáil Éireann.

Now based in the new part of the Galway West constituency that includes a portion of south Mayo, tallies show he is getting support in his home county.

O'Mahony, who was elected a TD for Mayo in 2011, secured 45% of first preferences in The Neale, 50% in Roundfort NS and over 50% in a number of Ballinrobe boxes.

It leaves the former Mayo, Galway and Leitrim GAA manager in contention for a seat along with Fine Gael running mates Sean Kyne and Hildegarde Naughton.

Topping the poll in Galway West is Fianna Fáil's Éamon Ó Cuív, who also performed well in south Mayo, as did his FF running mate Councillor Mary Hoade.
