Prime N5 property in central Mayo goes on the market
A BUSINESS landmark in central Mayo, McHale’s of Ballyvary, has gone on the market.
The lot comprises a filling station, convenience store and a farm supplies depot on the left hand side of the N5 as one proceeds east towards Bohola and Swinford.
The business has been successfully run for decades by the hardworking Willie and Kathleen and their family.
On a billboard sign as one approaches the property from Castlebar a sign extols the virtues of the fuel station ‘as the last filling station on the N5 before Knock airport’.
Auctioneer Brian Moran agrees the property is strategically located.
“I expect a lot of interest in the place,” Mr. Moran explained. “The property has huge potential.”
There’s an unusual bit of history to the present building.
Locals recall the structure was damaged when hit by lightning in the 1960s but thankfully nobody was injured.
Speculation in local property circles is that one of the big multiples may be interested in moving and taking over what is a prime location.
Best wishes to the McHales on their forthcoming, well earned, retirement.
