Death of former Castlebar soccer star

THE death has taken place of Conal McAteer, Ballinaglough, Snugboro, Castlebar.

A well-known and respected personality, he was a member of the administration staff of Mountain View Securities for many years.

In his youth, the deceased was an accomplished soccer player and starred with Castlebar Celtic and Road Rangers.

He was a member of the Road Rangers side that reached the quarterfinals of the Connaught Cup in 1970, losing 2-1 to holders Sligo Corthinians at Celtic Park.

Deepest sympathy is extended to his wife Mary and family. Burial takes tomorrow (Tuesday) following Mass for the repose of his soul at 11 a.m. in the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar.
