File for DPP on death of motorcyclist in north Mayo

A FILE is to be sent to the DPP on the death of a young motorcyclist following a collision with a van on the N26 Ballina to Foxford road  on Sunday afternoon.

Following the accident which claimed the life of Martin (Morch) Wynne, a married father of one who lived at Gortskehy, Crossmolina, the driver of a van, a male in his mid-thirties, was arrested at the scene.

He was held for questioning under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act at Ballina Garda Station but was released today (Monday) in the early afternoon.

The fatal impact occurred around 3.45 p.m. on in the townland of Ballinahaglish close to the entrance to the Mount Falcon Hotel.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information is asked to contact them at Ballina Garda Station on (096) 20560.
