Gardaí investigating Castlebar railway bridge incident
GARDAÍ in Castlebar have confirmed that an investigation is taking place into an incident at a railway bridge in Castlebar.
Motorists entering the town from the Ballinrobe/Belcarra/Clogher directions experienced traffic delays following an incident in which a car crashed into the parapet of the railway bridge at Saleen on the evening of May 2 last.
The parapet stopped the motor vehicle from falling onto the tracks below but some debris did fall onto the rail line.
This was quickly removed by Irish Rail personnel.
Luckily, there was no train passing at the time of the incident. Otherwise, the incident could have proved quite serious.
The car involved was removed by officers for technical examination and the driver was questioned.
