Kathleen Deere's generosity knew no bounds
THE death has taken place of Kathleen Deere (nee Deegan), Snugboro, Castlebar.
Aged 88, she was one of the town’s best loved and most respected personalities.
A native of Borris, Co. Carlow, news of her passing last night came as a tremendous shock to her family as well as her many friends throughout the county. She was the last surviving member of a family of 11.
Her generosity and charitable nature knew no bounds. She went out of her way to help people and never expected anything in return.
It was a wonderful trait which also hallmarked her time as a member of the Sisters of St. John of God before her marriage to her beloved husband, Paddy, who passed away a number of years ago.
She gave of her time unselfishly as a foster mother for many years and had a long association with the Western Care Association.
The deceased was known throughout the county because of her passion for bingo. Kathleen had a word for everybody and she enjoyed the fun that is unique to bingo players.
Most of all, however, she dedicated her life to her family and will fondly be remembered as a great provider, community worker and a woman ahead of her time. She was, in every respect, a special lady.
Deepest sympathy is extended to her son Ger (An Taoiseach Enda Kenny’s constituency secretary), daughters Celia, Mary and Ann, son-in-law Joe, daughter-in-law Pauline, grandchildren, sister-in-law, relatives, neighbours and a wide circle of friends.
She was predeceased by her husband Paddy, son Michael Patrick, and son-in-law Christy Webb.
Her remains will be reposing at Coady’s Funeral Home tomorrow evening (Tuesday) from 5.30 p.m. with removal at 8 p.m. to her residence.
Burial take place in the New Cemetery, Castlebar, on Wednesday following Requiem Mass at 1 p.m. in the Church of the Holy Rosary.
May her gentle soul rest in peace
