Passing of much loved Castlebar woman
THE death has taken place at Mayo University Hospital of Mary Hamrock (nee Duffy), ‘Southwinds’, Pound Road, Castlebar.
A member of one of Castlebar’s oldest and most respected families, news of her passing came as a shock to all those who knew her.
In her early 70s, Mary was very popular and outgoing personality and she and her husband John were held in the highest regard in social and community circles.
They were a devoted and inseparably couple and were always good company to meet out together.
Mary was a member of the staff of the County Cleaners, Market Square, Castlebar, for many years and her helpful and cheerful nature endeared her to customers.
She had a close association with Castlebar Boxing Club and was involved in organising many social events for members over the years.
Mary grew up at New Antrim Street where her family ran the former Nonnie Fitzgerald’s Pub, located where the Welcome Inn Hotel now stands. She and her family also resided at Marian Row for many years.
The deceased dedicated much to her life to her family and one of her great pleasures was the company of her grandchildren.
Deepest sympathy is extended to her husband John, son Ian (Galway), daughters Susan (Hamrock) and Toni (Mullaney), brother Paddy (Lucan), sister Noreen (Bourke, Melbourne), son-in-law Mike, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, grandchildren, nephews, nieces, and a large circle of relatives and friends.
Her remains will be reposing at her residence tomorrow (Sunday) evening from 4 until 7 p.m.
Removal takes place on Monday morning at 10.15 a.m. to the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar, for Requiem Mass at 11 o’clock with the funeral proceeding afterwards to the New Cemetery, Castlebar. May her gentle soul rest in peace.
