Boxer into last eight of European championships

MAYO'S Adam Dempsey advanced at the European Championships in Kaposvar, Hungary, today.

The Achill boxer will now face the Russian No. 1 in the quarterfinals tomorrow (Wednesday) afternoon.

Success against his Russian opponent will see Adam secure at least a bronze medal.

It was a day of mixed fortunes for Mayo at the championships with Castlebar's Zenja Jelijenkovis losing out in his last 16 bout to a strong Ukranian opponent.
