New jobs start rolling out in Mayo

A TEXAS-based firm has launched a major recruitment drive ahead of the opening in Castlebar of its first international manufacturing facility at Breaffy Road in the town.

Hungry Planet, a world leader in industrial scale vertical farming, has taken out a full-page advertisement in this week’s issue of The Connaught Telegraph seeking candidates to fill over 30 positions within the coming weeks.

The positions are in management, engineering, plant science, project management, materials handling, manufacturing, assembly, quality control, research and development, technical and consumer service.

The company, which is hoping to employ over 200 once it is fully operational in 2018, has already appointed local man, Tiernan Mongey (pictured), as general manager. He was a production manager at Coca Cola in Ballina for the past 16 years.

Speaking about his new role, he stated: “I am very excited about the product because it is one that will change people’s lives.”

Taoiseach Enda Kenny said he is delighted with the progress being made at the former Volex/Casey car sales buildings.

“It is a very significant development for the county town and I wish all involved with Hungry Planet every success,” he added.
