Jury finds man not guilty of rape but guilty of indecently assaulting sisters
A MAN from the west of Ireland has been found not guilty by a jury at the Central Criminal Court of raping one of his sisters on four occasions more than 30 years ago.
However, the jury, sitting at Castlebar courthouse today (Thursday), did find the accused, who is now in his late 50s, guilty of one count of sexually assaulting his alleged victim when she was aged between 10 and 15 years old.
The jury also found the accused guilty on six counts of indecently assaulting another sister in the early 1980s.
Following the jury's verdict, Judge Tony Hunt put back the accused for sentencing to October 3.
Remanding the accused on continuing bail, Judge Hunt ordered that he continue to reside at his current address and sign on daily at his local garda station.
