Go ahead for Educate Together school in Castlebar
PLANNING permission has been granted by Mayo County Council for the change of use of Marsh House, Newtown, Castlebar, to a four-classroom school.
Objectors have until the middle of this month (August) to appeal the decision.
It is hoped to open the non-denominational Educate Together facility at Marsh House, a listed building, by the end of this month.
Two objections to the change of use of the building were lodged with the planning office. Despite the objections, council planners gave the proposal the go-ahead.
One of the reservations raised by a local couple was that a modern primary school of the size proposed was 'inappropriate for a small listed building on an urban site that is too small'.
