Railway Theatre Group return for two summer performances
THE Railway Theatre Group return to stage this week for two performances of their acclaimed play Three Plus One.
Written by Mary Ellen Conlon, the play will be staged in the Linenhall Arts Centre, Castlebar, tomorrow (August 18) and will also be performed in the Town Hall Theatre, Claremorris, on Saturday (August 20) as part of The Non Prophet Organisation's Claremorris Community Arts & Heritage Festival.
The Railway Theatre Group was formed in 2015, when four local Mayo ladies joined together with the common ambition of devising an original piece of Irish drama. Over many months, Stacey Flaherty, Sharon Cameron and Ainé McNicholas, under the direction of Mary Ellen Conlon, worked at developing Three Plus One.
The play is based on fictional characters and explores the complexity of female relationships. It examines the dynamic of three sisters, the unlikely support of three strangers, and the complex and highly nuanced nature of the mother/daughter relationship. While the play focuses on serious life, issues there are many light-hearted moments, especially in the character of homeless lady Nancy and her dog Danny.
The play, which was originally staged in January 2016, displayed powerful performances from the cast of three who each play the part of three different characters. For the summer performances, drama student and Kiltimagh native Adrienne Walsh will join the cast.
Tickets for the Linenhall Arts Centre performance can be booked at www.thelinenhall.com or by contacting (094) 9023733. Details of the Claremorris performance are available at www.nonprophetfestival.eu. Curtain-up both nights is at 8 p.m.
