Death of much loved Claremorris woman
THE death has taken place at Mayo University Hospital of Bernadette (Birdie) Smyth, Main Street, Claremorris.
Wife of the late Paddy, Bernadette was a devoted, wife, mother and highly respected in the local community.
Always a very kind and gentle lady, she, along with her late husband Paddy, ran a very successful newsagents and bar in the heart of Claremorris.
Indeed, it was a place where everyone liked to visit as there was always plenty of great stories told, fun and craic.
Birdie, as she was known locally, was involved in many organisations in Claremorris throughout her long and distinguished life.
However, her great love was the church. A devout catholic, she was a daily Mass goer and the rosary was always very special to her. Her passing has left a deep void in the Claremorris community.
She will be sadly missed by her sons Tony, Padraig, Tommie, Liam and Joe, daughter Maura, daughters-in-law, grandchildren, her sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and endless number of friends.
Burial took place in St. Colman’s Cemetery earlier today following Requiem Mass for the repose of her soul at St. Colman's Church, Claremorris.
