Positive news on Lough Mask water but boiling continues
NO cases of illness have so far resulted from the presence of cryptosporidium in the Lough Mask water supply.
So said Iarla Moran, senior engineer (water services) with Mayo County Council, when he addressed a meeting of the council today (Monday).
The latest tests on the supply, which provides 46,500 homes with water and is the subject of a 'boil alert', indicates positive results.
However, Mr Moran says consumers shouold continue to boil the water until an official all- clear is given.
Peter Hynes, chief executive, apologised on behalf of the council for any inconvenience caused to water consumers.
He welcomed the fact there is no question mark over the quality of the treatment plant at Lough Mask.
Mr. Hynes added that Irish Water intends to investigate further the possibility of extending the scheme to other counties.
And he hoped the 'clear' test results continues and that normal consumption of the water supply can resume as quickly as possible.
