Funeral arrangements for former Mayo GAA star
THE funeral arrangements have been announced for former Mayo footballer Greg Maher, Warren Close, Castlenock, Dublin, and late of Knock Road, Claremorris.
His remains will be reposing in his home (Warren Close) from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. today (Friday) and tomorrow Saturday.
Removal takes place on Sunday to St. Mochta's Church, Porterstown, for Requiem Mass for the repose of his soul at 2 p.m., followed by burial in he Cemetery of the Assumption, Bagenalstown, County Carlow.
The deceased partnered Michael Fitzmaurice (captain) in the middle of the field when Mayo won the All-Ireland minor final in 1985.
Four years later he played at right-half forward on the Mayo senior team that lost narrowly to Cork in 1989 All-Ireland senior final final.
Greg also played at all levels for Claremorris and was regarded as one of the best underage players ever to come from the area.
He was predeceased by his parents Tom and Beasy and sister Áine.
The late Mr. Maher is survived by his wife Mary, brothers Séan, Thomas and Padraig, sisters Patricia and Clare, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, relatives and a large circle of friends.
