County finals under floodlights confirmed
BOTH the Mayo senior and intermediate county football finals will be played on Saturday evening, October 29, under floodlights at Elverys MacHale Park.
The pressure on Mayo to produce county champions ahead of the Connaught club championship deadline, which has been extended by a week, meant the Mayo finals had to be played on Saturday to allow for the need for a replay in the case of a draw. If a replay is needed it will have to go ahead the following Wednesday.
Mayo GAA County Board also confirmed at a meeting last night (Thursday) that a meeting will be held next week with the Mayo senior team manager, Stephen Rochford, to review the All-Ireland drawn final and replay and a report will be presented to the November meeting of the Mayo board for an open discussion.
The new county minor team manager will also be announced that night. Four nominations have been reieved to replace Enda Gilvarry who stepped down from the post and interviews will be conducted with Damien Gavin (Swinford), Tomás Morley (Kiltimagh), Paul Jordan (Castlebar Mitchels) and Martin McIntyre (Belmullet).
The Mayo GAA annual convention will take place on Sunday, December 4, in the McWilliam Park Hotel, Claremorris.
