Three-in-row for wonderful Westport United
WESTPORT United made it three Super League titles on the trot for the first time in nearly 40 years earlier today after taking all three points in the final game of the season at Glenhest.
For a few of the Westport players it was their ninth title in total.
United had to wait until the second half to make their superiority count but once veteran midfielder David Cameron put them ahead after 55 minutes, the outcome was inevitable.
Republic of Ireland junior international David Hoban made it two-nil when he glanced in a free kick from Colm Keane after 70 minutes, and that set the seal on a comprehensive performance.
Westport captain Gary Cunningham was presented with the Tom Kelly Cup by the chairman of the Mayo FA, Padraic McHale.
Cunningham paid tribute to his colleagues, club sponsors and in particular the supporters, who he described as being like a 12th man.
