Irishtown couple are laid to rest as community mourns

KITTY and Tom Fitzgerald, who died tragically in their home near Irishtown, Claremorris, last Tueday, were cherished members of the local community, the chief celebrant of their funeral Mass, Fr. Martin O'Connor, said today.

Fr. O'Connor told the overflow congregation the tragic nature of the deaths and the injuries sustained by the couple's son, Paul Fitzgerald, should not lead them to forget the 'goodness of their lives and the contributions they made to our parish and wider community.'

During his homily, Fr. O'Connor called for prayers for Paul that he may recover from his injuries.

He said he heard earlier in the day that Paul is stable in (Beaumont) Hospital and he hoped his recovery continues.
