In the dark over Mayo hospital cancellations figures
A MEMBER of the HSE West Forum is up in arms over the failure of the authority to provide him with information on the number of operations cancelled at Mayo University Hospital in Castlebar this year.
Councillor Michael Kilcoyne was told by Ann Cosgrove, HSE West's operating manager, the authority is unable to get the relevant figures from the hospital.
The independent representative submitted a written question to the forum in September asking for details on the number of procedures that had been cancelled at the Castlebar facility in 2016
He was told the figures were not available, but they would be forwarded to him within seven days.
Two months later, he had not received them and again asked for the details this week, only to be told they were still not available.
Councillor Kilcoyne wondered how a hospital can plan its future procedures if it does not have such information readily available.
“This is totally unacceptable,” he stated.
