Municipal chairman issues appeal at Christmas lights switch-on
THE chairman of the Castlebar Municipal District, Councillor Michael Kilcoyne, made an appeal to townspeople at the switching-on of the Christmas lights at Market Square in Castlebar this evening.
He called on them to shop local this Christmas and support the wide range of retail outlets in the community.
He stated: 'It is very important that we support our local commercial and retail sector at every opportunity to ensure the revival of our economy. We have a very wide choice of products here in Castlebar, probably the best of any major town in the country.
There was a big turnout at the ceremony with singing and musical performances by Castlebar Town Band, Tall Trees, St. Joseph's Secondary School Choir and Tomas Langan.
The master of ceremonies, Michael Baynes, thanked everybody for their attendance on such a lovely evening.
