Teenage girl seriously injured in road accident

A TEENAGE girl who was seriously injured in a road traffic accident in Castlebar last evening (Monday) was transferred overnight to the Beaumont Hospital, Dublin.

The victim was rushed to Dublin from Mayo University Hospital in an ambulance which was escorted by a garda patrol vehicle.

It is understood she sustained head injuries in the impact when a vehicle collided with her while she was walking at the junction of Sion Hill and Rossmore Estate near Castlebar's Pontoon Road at around 7.30 p.m.

Traffic diversions were still in place in the Sion Hill area this morning following the collision.

Gardaí in Castlebar - (094) 9022222 - are appealing for witnesses.
