Mayo deaths from November 28 to December 4

IT is with deep regret that we record the deaths of the many people from the county who passed away in the past week.

May their souls rest in peace. Sympathy is extended to the bereaved families.

 

ANDREW FEENEY, CASTLEBAR

Andrew Feeney, Halldene, Bishopstown, Cork, and formerly of Castlebar.

Dearly loved husband of Kathleen (nee Deely) and the late Deirdre (nee Fahy), loving father of Bryan and Helen. Sadly missed by his loving wife, children, sisters, daughter-in-law, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

Burial took place at St. James’ Cemetery, Chetwynd, following Requiem Mass at the Church of the Real Presence, Curraheen Road, Bishopstown.

 

MICHAEL MARKEY, ACHILL SOUND

Michael Markey, Glasgow, and late of Shraheens, Achill Sound.

Removal took place to the Church of Mary Immaculate, Achill Sound,with interment in Glencove Cemetery after the funeral Mass.

 

MAUREEN MCCARTAIN, KNOCKMORE

Maureen McCartain (née McGowan), Ballymacredmond, Knockmore.

Sadly missed by her loving husband Muredach, daughter Sinead, sister Lily, cousins, relatives and friends.

The funeral arrived from McGowan's Funeral Home, Ballina, to the Church of Christ the King, Knockmore, with burial afterwards in Ballinahaglish Cemetery, Knockmore.

 

PAT O'MALLEY, HOLLYMOUNT

Patrick (Pat, Patsy) O'Malley, Carrowkilleen, Hollymount.

Pat is deeply regretted by his loving wife Marian, brothers-in-law, sister-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. Burial took place in Robeen Cemetery on  following Requiem Mass at Our Lady of Sorrow Church, Robeen.

 

BILL SELL, LOUISBURGH

Bill Sell, Derreen, Louisburgh, and formerly of London, England.

Bill, who died peacefully Mayo University Hospital, was pre-deceased by his loving wife Eileen (née Donnelly), and is deeply mourned by his children Linda and Damien, extended family and many friends. May he rest in peace.

 

PATRICK STAUNTON, BARNATRA

Patrick Staunton, Carramore, Barnatra, Ballina, Mayo.

Patrick was pre-deceased by his wife Norah. He is deeply missed by his loving family: daughters Maureen Flannery, Belmullet, Eileen O'Connor, Tallagh, Geraldine Barrett, Carramore, Kathleen Healy, Barnatra, and Rita Kennedy, New Jersey; son Martin, New York; sister Kate Kerrigan, UK; sons-in-law; daughter-in-law; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; relatives; neighbours; and many friends.

The funeral Mass was at the Church of the Sacred Heart, Belmullet, with burial afterwards in Inver Cemetery.

 

MARY BOYLAN, FOXFORD

Mary Boylan (née Queenan), Station Road, Foxford, and formerly of Errew, Crossmolina.

Mary will be dearly missed by her loving husband Seamus her brothers and sisters, nephews, nieces relatives, neighbours and many friends.

The funeral Mass preceded interment in Addergoole Cemetery, Lahardane.

 

PATRICIA FORDE, GALWAY

Patricia (Patsy) Forde (née Boyle), Clonboo Cross, Corrandulla, Galway, and formerly of Ballyglass, Claremorris.

In her 90th year, Patricia died peacefully at St. Mary's Nursing Home, Shantalla Road, Galway. Wife of the late Sonny, she is sadly missed by her loving son Gearóid, daughter-in-law Jennifer (nee Mitchell), grandchildren Adam and Gavin, sisters Kitty Farragher (Hollymount) and Josie Timoney (Mullingar), brother Michael Boyle (Mayo Abbey), sister-in-law Teresa, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and many friends.

Interment took place in Annaghdown Cemetery following Mass at St. Brendan's Church, Annaghdown.

 

TIM GLAVEY, AGHAMORE

Tim Glavey, Lauralea, Aghamore, Ballyhaunis.

Tim's funeral Mass was in St. Joseph’s Church, Aghamore, followed by burial in Aghamore Cemetery.

 

PJ KEEGAN, DOOHOMA

PJ Keegan, Doohoma, Ballina.

PJ, who died peacefully in University Hospital Galway, was laid to rest in Doohoma cemetery following the funeral Mass at St. Pius X Church, Doohoma.

 

MICHAEL HOPKINS, BALLYHAUNIS

Michael (Mick) Hopkins, Island, Ballyhaunis.

Mick died peacefully at his home. The funeral Mass at St. Patrick's Church, Ballyhaunis, on Saturday preceded burial in the local cemetery.

 

JOHN GALLIGAN, BALLA

John Galligan, Ara, Balla, and formerly of Kilnagun, Virginia, Co. Cavan.

John's funeral Mass at St. Cronin's Church, Balla, was followed by interment in the adjoining cemetery.

 

PATRICIA FUNGE, IRISHTOWN

Patricia Funge (née Mannion), Reading, England, and late of Dunmacreena, Irishtown, Mayo.

Deeply regretted by her brothers Joe Mannion (Dunmacreena) and Brendan Mannion (London), sisters Mary Donnelly (Cornamona), Imelda Laskowska (London), Francis Lyons (Oranmore), Aggie Mannion (London) and Bernadette Neocleous (London), as well as brothers-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

The funeral Mass was held on Saturday last in the Church of the Holy Family, Irishtown, with burial afterwards in adjoining cemetery.

 

JOHN BARRETT, BELMULLET

John Barrett, Devlane, Clogher, Belmullet.

John, who was predeceased by his parents Philip and Anne and his brother Padraig (Taylor's Hill, Galway), died suddenly at his residence on Wednesday.

He will be sadly missed by his family, sister-in-law Teresa, nieces Fiona and Jennifer, nephew Padraig, relatives, neighbours and many friends.

The funeral Mass on Saturday last in St. Brendan's Church was followed by interment in Faulmore Cemetery. May his gentle soul rest in peace

Bridgie Staunton, Cappaduff, Tourmakeady.

Bridgie's funeral Mass at Tourmakeady Church  was followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.

 

MAEVE GLEESON REILLY, CASTLEBAR

Maeve Gleeson Reilly, 12 Marian Row, Castlebar, and late of Chapel Street, Castlebar.

Maeve, who died peacefully at her residence, is deeply regretted by her husband Vincent, son Thady, daughter Claire, brother John, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, mother-in-law, father-in-law, neighbours, relatives and many friends.

Removal from her residence to the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar, took place on Saturday last with burial in Castlebar New Cemetery after the funeral Mass.

 

BRENDAN MCINTYRE, CHARLESTOWN

Brendan McIntyre, Charlestown, Mayo.

Brendan died peacefully in the wonderful care of the staff of the Mayo University Hospital, Castlebar.

Pre-deceased by his brothers Paddy and Jimmy, he is sadly missed by his wife Phil, sons Oliver and Enda, his grandchildren, sisters Pearl, Mary-Jo and Norrie, nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, his great neighbours and many friends.

The funeral Mass at St. James' Church, Charlestown, was followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery afterwards.

 

EAMON COMMONS, MOYGOWNAGH

Eamon Commons, Ardvarney, Moygownagh, and formerly of Snipelawn, Newcastle, Galway, Treenagh, Moygownagh

Brother of the late Martin (New York), Kevin (Manchester), Vincent (Moygownagh) and Laura Bott (Reddich, England), Eamon is deeply mourned by his loving wife Chrissie, daughter Catherine, sisters Kathleen Curriston (Donegal), Eileen Farrell (Moygownagh), Ann Rush (London), brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

Requiem Mass  in St. Cormac's Church, Moygownagh, was followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.

 

MAUREEN O'MALLEY, CASTLEBAR

Maureen O'Malley (née Frain), Townycoolawee, Castlebar, and late of Wigan, Lancashire. Maureen, who died peacefully at Mayo University Hospital, is very deeply regretted by her loving husband Tony, family Ann-Marie, Catherine, Anthony, Margaret, Rosalene and Patrick, brother Anthony, son-in-law Alistair, daughters-in-law Elisha and Ciara, grandchildren Caitlin, Tara, Robert, Kian, Katie, Sophie, Clea and Arianna, niece Annette, nephews, relatives, neighbours and friends.

Interment too place in Castlebar New Cemetery following the funeral Mass 

 

JOHN O'HARA, CROSSMOLINA

John O'Hara, Clondalkin, Dublin, and formerly of Keenagh, Fiddaun, Crossmolina, and Fanore, Co. Clare.

John will be sadly missed by his loving wife Margaret (nee McCormack), son Thomas, daughters Loretto and Nicola, sons-in-law, grandchildren, brothers Martin and Michael, sisters Breege, Philomena and Mary, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

Requiem Mass  was followed by burial in Craggagh Cemetery, Fanore.

 

PATRICK MULLEE, SWINFORD

Patrick Mullee, Battersea, London, and formerly of Knocks, Killasser, Swinford.

The funeral Mass at All Saints Church in Killasser  was followed by burial in Killasser Cemetery. May he rest in peace.

 

TERESA GERATHTY, BELMULLET

Teresa Geraghty (nee Noone), Gaulstown, Duleek, Co. Meath, and formerly of Belmullet.

Teresa, in the tender care of Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, died peacefully. Pre-deceased by her husband Thomas and her late grandson Mark, she is sadly missed by her sons Ben and Thomas, daughter Maureen, her sister Cait, sister-in-law, daughters-in-law, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

The funeral Mass preceded burial in Holycross Cemetery, Duleek.

 

WILLIE CASEY, BALLINA

Willie Casey, Corsacrum, Ballina.

Willie, who died peacefully after a brief illness at Mayo University Hospital, will dearly missed by his loving wife Regina, daughters Sinéad and Hilary, sons Rowan and Éanna, grandchildren Adam, Gemma, Jane and Matthew, sister Carmel (Baxter), sister-in-law Marian Casey, son-in-law Jim Reidy, daughters-in-law Aileen O'Connnor and Emer Rouse, nieces, nephews, relatives and many friends.

The funeral Mass at St. Muredach's Cathedral, Ballina, was following by burial in Leigue Cemetery.

 

JIMMY BARRETT, CASTLEBAR

Jimmy Barrett, Drumdoagh, Breaffy, Castlebar.

Jimmy died peacefully at Mayo University Hospital, Castlebar. He is very deeply regretted by his loving wife Nora, family John, Maureen, Patricia, Seamus, Rhona, Kenneth, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, grandchildren, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and friends.

Interment too place Breaffy Cemetery followed the funeral Mass in St. Aloysius Church.

 

JOHN WALSH, BALLYCASTLE

John Walsh, Kilbride, Ballycastle

John is deeply regretted by his wife Mary, sons Kevin, Sean, Damien, Gary, David and Seamus, his daughter Elaine, his grandchildren, his sisters Teresa, Mary, Margaret, Sally and Phil, and sadly missed by his family, nieces, nephews, relatives neighbours and friends.

 

 

MAURA O'TOOLE, LOUISBURGH

Maura O'Toole (née Maheady), Roonagh, Louisburgh, a native of Ross, Killala.

Loving wife of the late Paddy, Maura is deeply mourned by her daughters Maureen O'Malley (Clifden), Sheila Gibbons (Portmarnock), and Nuala Dyck (Claddaghduff), son Jim (Ballina), sister Patsy Seery (Dublin), grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sons-in-law Joe, Paddy and Tom, daughter-in-law Annette, brother-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, cousins, and a large circle of friends.

Interment took place in Killeen Cemetery.

 

ROBERT O'MALLEY, CASTLEBAR

Robert (Bob) O'Malley, Beaubec, Drogheda, Meath, and late of Bettystown, Meath, and Castlebar.

Robert died peacefully surrounded by his loving family. Beloved husband of Doreen, he was pre-deceased by his daughter Eileen and brother Sean (John). Sadly missed by his loving wife, son Robert, daughter-in-law Suzanne, brothers Tommy and Paul, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchild, relatives and friends. 

 

MARY O'HIGGINS, CHARLESTOWN

Mary O'Higgins (née O'Hara), Barrack Street, Charlestown, and formerly of Threadneedle Street, Galway, and Knockahoney, Aclare, Co. Sligo.

Mary, who died peacefully in St. Attracta’s Nursing Home, Charlestown, was buried in Kilmactigue Cemetery following Requiem Mass in the Church of The Holy Rosary, Kilmactigue.

 

MARY O'GORMAN, SWINFORD

Mary O'Gorman (née Groarke), Foster Place, Tuam, Galway, and formerly of Cullane, Swinford.

Beloved wife of the late Seán, Mary is sadly missed by her loving sons David, Michael, Eugene, Joe, Fr. John and Maurice, daughters Mary and Helen, daughters-in-law, son-in-law, 18 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, brothers Paddy and Gerry, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours, and friends, especially Helen Keane and Anne Burke. 

 

AMY MORAN, WESTPORT

Amy Moran, Chestnut Grove, Westport.

Requiem Mass took place in St. Mary's Church, Westport, with the funeral afterwards in Aughavale Cemetery. May she rest in peace.

 

ELIZABETH MCGOWAN, BALLYCROY

Elizabeth (Lizzie) McGowan (née McMenamon), Claggan, Ballycroy.

Elizabeth died at St. Brendan’s Nursing Home, Mulranny, in her 105th year. Mass took place in the Church of The Holy Family, Ballycroy, followed by burial in Claggan Cemetery.
