Passing of much-loved Mayo publican and undertaker is widely mourned
THE death has taken place of Aiden O'Hora, Carrowkeel, Bohola, and Main Street, Kiltimagh.
One of the best-known and most respected personalities in east Mayo through his work as a publican and undertaker, news of his passing came as a great shock to his family as well as the community at large.
The deceased was an astute political observer and he was a lifelong member of the Fianna Fáil party in the town, working on many local and general election campaigns over the years.
Paying tribute to him this morning, Deputy Lisa Chambers said Aiden was one of her closest colleagues in politics.
She stated: “He was a huge support to me when I first started out in politics and subsequently when I was elected to public office. He offered me invaluable help and guidance.
'I will miss him greatly, as will the Fianna Fáil organisation throughout Mayo. Aiden was such a big presence and his views were very incisive. Most of all, he was a true gentleman and a legendary figure in the community. I extend my heartfelt sympathy to his family.”
The deceased is survived by his sons Marty, Aiden and John, daughters Miriam, Kay and Therese, grandchildren, daughter-in-law, sons-in-law, cousins, sisters Nell, Bridie and Theresa and a wide circle of friends.
His remains will be reposing in O'Hora's Funeral Home, Main Street, Kiltimagh, this evening (Thursday) from 4 to 8 p.m. His Funeral Mass takes place on Friday at 12 noon in The Church of the Immaculate Conception and St. Joseph's, Bohola, with burial afterwards in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Bohola.
May his gentle soul rest in peace.
