UK police probe death of Mayo mother and her son in London

THE bodies of a Mayo woman and her seven-year-old boy have been discovered in London after police forced their way into a house.

Officers were called to a house in Ruislip, west London, at around 10.50 a.m. yesterday over alleged welfare concerns.

The bodies of Sinéad Higgins (37) and her son Oisín were discovered by the Metropolitan Police.

Ms. Higgins is reported to be a native of Aughagower, Westport, and had been working in London for a number of years.

Police in the UK confirmed the identity of the deceased this afternoon. They have said that they are not looking for anyone else in relation to the discovery.

Next of kin have been informed.

Post-mortem examinations are scheduled to take place tomorrow.

Detective inspector Dave Bolton, from the Homicide and Major Crime Command, said: 'The investigation is at a very early stage but inquiries so far lead us to believe there is a likelihood that the tragic events that led to the deaths do not involve a third party.

'We are appealing to anyone who has any information to come and speak with us.'
