Former Swinford courthouse to become a creative hub
THE Minister of State for Regional Economic Development at the Department of Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs Michael Ring has today announced funding of €50,000 for a Courthouse Creative Hub in Swinford under the Rural Economic Development Zones (REDZ) 2016.
The REDZ initiative is designed to stimulate economic development in rural towns and their hinterlands.
This project in Swinford will help generate sustainable economic development and job creation in Swinford and its hinterlands.
Stated Minister Ring: 'This key strategy will reinvigorate Swinford, making the town centre a pleasant and desirable place to live.
'By re-inhabiting the town, the population can be increased to a level that will sustain local businesses and micro-enterprises, which in turn will generate employment.
'The project is sustainable in the fact that it is community based and stems from the wants and needs of the local people.
“This scheme is all about empowering local communities to provide local residents with local opportunities and I am delighted to announce this funding for Swinford.”
