Westport 250 celebrations are about to start

GET your woollies on and get outdoors for midnight as the Westport 250 celebrations get underway this New Year's Eve with a public fireworks display.

To mark the beginning of 2017, the year of Westport’s 250th birthday, an aerial barrage of fireworks will be fired into the night sky above Westport town at precisely midnight this New Year's Eve.

Westport Festivals & Events, on Facebook, advise that the main vantage points within Westport will be from be from the Octagon, Mall and Fairgreen.

This is the first public event of the Westport 250 celebrations and marks the beginning of a year of celebrations.

So whoever you are in town this New Year's Eve, wrap up and get outdoors, with your tripods and SLR cameras on slow exposure just before midnight and look in a southerly direction into the night sky for those magnificent colourful starbursts.

This New Year's Eve public firework event is a delightful precursor to the Westport 250 launch on St. Patrick’s weekend, which will host the main 250 fireworks sky fest at Westport Quay in March.
