Increase in Mayo drink driving arrests and burglaries

THERE were 22 arrests in total for suspected drink driving in the Mayo Garda Division in the period December 1, 2016 to Jan 4, 2017.

This is an increase of three on the same period last year.

Eight of the Mayo arrests in the festive period just ending were in the Castlebar Garda District – an increase of two on the same period last year.

Gardai report five burglaries in the Mayo Garda Division in the period December 23 to January 4.

They were Murrisk (December 23), Kilmeena (December 24), Ayle, Westport, (December 24), Louisburgh (December 28) and Corcoran Terrace, Ballina.

The latter break-in was to a shed in the period December 20 – December 24 when the property owner was in hospital. Some tools were stolen.

Gardai say they are following “a direct line of enquiry” in their investigation into the Louisburgh break-in.
