Man sent for trial on child pornography charges
A MAN has been sent forward for trial to the next sitting of the Circuit Criminal Court on charges of possessing child pornography at an address in Castlebar more than four and a half years ago.
The accused was served with the Book of Evidence at a sitting of Castlebar District Court today.
He is charged with knowingly having in his possession images of child pornography, contained on a computer hard drive, at a Castlebar address on May 3, 2012, contrary to Section 6 of the Child Trafficking and Pornography Act 1998.
Sergeant Hugh O'Donnell told Judge Mary Devins that when charged this morning the accused made no reply after caution.
On the application of State Solicitor Vincent Deane, the accused was returned for trial to the next sitting of the Circuit Criminal Court in Castlebar on January 31.
The State consented to bail provided the accused surrendered his passport and gives an undertaking not to apply for any further travel documentation.
Mr. Tom Walsh, solicitor, told the court that the accused is currently serving a prison sentence on other matters.
