Gardaí issue fresh warning about bank 'scammers'

GARDAI in Mayo today issued a new warning to bank customers about 'scammers'.

The ploy involves account holders getting a phone call – purportedly from a bank official – indicating 'irregular activity' on their account.

The customer is then asked to provide personal information, such as their private PIN number.

The advice from gardai to account holders is not to engage in any way with the caller and to immediately report the hoax call to the relevant bank as well as An Garda Siochána.
