File being prepared for DPP on Mayo infant's death
A FILE is being prepared for the DPP on the death of a four-month-old Mayo baby in Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children, Dublin, on January 1.
This follows the release without charge from garda custody earlier today of a 20-year-old woman, who had been detained at Claremorris Garda Station since yesterday under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
The infant was treated initially at Mayo University Hospital, Castlebar, on December 28, before being transferred to Our Lady's Hospital, Crumlin.
Authorities at the hospital raised concerns about the infant and gardai in Mayo were contacted and an investigation was started.
The child was on a life support machine for a number of days.
A post-mortem examination was conducted into the baby's death, but the official results are not being revealed by gardai 'for operational reasons'. The gardaí investigation is ongoing,
