Swimming star Nicholas is focused on the European championships
The Connaught Telegraph Young Sports Star of the Year, No. 6
Nicholas Quinn (Swimming)
CASTLEBAR swimmer Nicholas Quinn achieved a life-long ambition by qualifying for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, where he did himself and his country proud.
The University of Edinburgh student came within a hair’s breadth of qualifying for the final of the 200m breaststroke but was compensated to some extent by winning his individual heat, a magnificent achievement given he was up against some world class opponents.
At just 22-years-of age the Castlebar man, who developed his talent through the coaches at the local swimming club, is young enough to qualify for another one, if not two, Olympics, but, at the moment, his concentration will be on the European Championships and improving his own personal times at national and international level.
