Man fraudulently presenting himself as garda detective strikes again
A MAN who is fraudulently presenting himself as a garda detective around Mayo has struck again.
Gardaí in the county have confirmed that the impersonator called to a house in Castlebar yesterday and informed the occupant there had been a robbery in the area.
The man said he was a garda detective investigating the crime and asked if the houseowner had any €50 notes for him to check. She did not and the man left.
Sergeant Tony Cosgrove, Mayo crime prevention officer, told Midwest Radio that the man in question is a con artist and the gardaí are anxious to track him down.
A similar incident occurred in Bohola earlier this month.
Sergeant Cosgrove warned members of the public not to answer their doors to anybody they don't know or who do not have proper indentification.
