Death of former Clew Bay United player
THE death has occurred of Alan Browne, Drumgarve, Carrowholly, Westport.
News of his passing has evoked feelings of immense sorrow and loss throughout west Mayo.
He is survived by his parents Jim and Christina, brothers Eddie, James and Anto, sisters Maggie, Rody, Trish and Tina, uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins, relatives and friends, to whom heartfelt sympathy is tendered.
His remains will be reposing at his residence this evening (Sunday) from 3 until 6.30 p.m.
Requiem Mass takes place on Monday at 12 noon in St. Brendan's Church, Myna, Kilmeena, with the funeral proceeding afterwards to Myna Cemetery.
Paying tribute to him, the public relations officer of Westport United, Kenneth Gannon, said Alan was very well known around Westport and he had many friends.
He said: “Alan loved the social scene and to meet up with his peers and have the craic.
“Alan was a noted footballer in his time, playing for Clew Bay United. He was a Manchester United fan and, when Sir Alex Ferguson came to Westport, Alan met his hero.
“Alan worked away from home but he was always close to his roots, coming to meet up with his friends at the first available opportunity.
'I extend my sympathy to Alan's family, relatives and friends at this time.
“May he rest in peace.”
