Council's mark of respect to crew of Rescue 116
THE acting chief executive at Mayo County Council, Joanne Grehan, has issued a statement on behalf of the authority extending sincere sympathies and deepest condolences to the family of Captain Dara Fitzpatrick who died in such tragic circumstances off the Mayo coast.
She stated: “Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of Mark Duffy, Ciaran Smith and Paul Ormsby at this extremely difficult time.
“The work of the Irish Coast Guard is particularly significant and highly respected in a rural coastal county like Mayo and this tragedy will be deeply felt by our coastal communities.
“As a mark of respect to their colleagues in the Irish Coast Guard, Mayo County Council has confirmed the Fire Service and Civil Defence services will not be participating in the St. Patrick Day parades around the county tomorrow”
