Mayo community mourns tragic death of young man in car accident
THE man who died in a single vehicle accident near Newport in the early hours of yesterday morning has been named as Timothy Lyons Junior, Kilmacrade, Breaffy, Castlebar.
In his 30s, he was killed after his car left the road and a hit a fence at Kilbride at around 4.20 a.m.
He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was removed to Mayo University Hospital where a post-mortem examination took place.
News of the tragedy has cast a shadow over the communities of Breaffy and Manulla where the deceased was held in such high regard.
A member of a widely-known and respected family, the deceased was a son of Timothy and Marian Lyons.
He is also survived by his brothers Thomas and Anthony, uncles, aunt, cousins, relatives, neighbours and friends, to whom heartfelt sympathy is tendered.
Matches in which Manulla FC was involved at the weekend were postponed as a mark of respect.
The remains will be reposing at the Kilcoyne Funeral Home on Tuesday evening from 5 p.m. with removal at 7.30 p.m. to his residence.
Removal from his residence takes place on Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. to St. Aloysius' Church, Breaffy, for Requiem Mass at 11 a.m. with burial afterwards in Keelogues Cemetery.
