Passing of well known angler
THE death has occurred in Wales of Dick Duncalf, who for over 40 years had close ties with Co. Mayo.
Aged 92, Dick had a residence at Conloon, Ross, Castlebar, where up to recent times he spent up to six months each year.
A renowned angler, Dick was no stranger on the western lakes - Corrib, Mask, Carra, Conn and Cullin. He also enjoyed sea fishing.
A keen environmentalist, Dick was noted for his knowledge of nature and enjoyed nothing better than hooking a Moy salmon or a brown trout from one of the many small lakes he fly-fished.
He was an accomplished chef and shared his culinary knowledge with his fellow anglers.
In 1946 Dick established Cambrian Photography, which became the largest photographic retailer in north Wales.
He was a regular in Johnny McHale’s pub in Castlebar, where he enjoyed a ‘medium’ with his late friends, Gerry Deane and Eamon Miliffe.
