The Frank & Walters

Legendary Cork band coming to Castlebar

LEGENDARY Irish band The Frank & Walters are coming to Garbo’s in Castlebar.

Synonymous with great albums, radio hits and a live show that has taken them all over the world during the course of a celebrated and critically acclaimed career, Cork's finest will be performing in Mayo tonight (Saturday, April 15), brought to you by Finbar Hoban Presents.

Throughout their latest album, Songs for the Walking Wounded, the Franks’ perennial sense of what makes a perfect indie pop song rings true, yet there is a sense that there is something more profound at work here, something that is maybe as well-disguised as many of the anxieties and complexities being conveyed.

And much like the people who struggle to keep these feelings at bay, the album is worth taking a little time to get to know properly, to see and hear what is going on behind the facade.

Since appearing on Top of the Pops during the '90s and gracing the covers of NME and Melody Maker, The Frank & Walters have consistently delivered classic indie pop in the form of hits such as ‘After All’, ‘Fashion Crisis Hits New York’, ‘This Is Not A Song’ and 'Daisy Chain'.

The band’s last album, Greenwich Mean Time, saw them reach a whole new audience, both at home and abroad, with gigs in the US and as far away as Japan for the first time. The Franks have also become regular festival favourites at some of Europe and Ireland’s biggest summer events, playing Electric Picnic 2016 and the Shine On Weekender in the UK.

Support on the night comes from local Balla act Train Room. The brainchild of Balla songwriter, musician and producer Joe Monaghan, Train Room’s first gig at Dublin’s showcase Hard Working Class Heroes Festival last October and debut EP Delicate Bones brought the band’s distinctive sound to general attention and significant interest.

Joe, who has been honing his musical skills by recording demos for the past seven or eight years (in his studio in Balla), cites musical influences as broad as Wilco, Whipping Boy, Kate Bush, Neil Young and Nina Simone.

Opening act Con Murphy, from Castlebar, will be performing original material from his at-yet-untitled new EP.

Tickets for what promises to be a great night are available from Downtown Records and Hogs Heaven Bar, Castlebar, as well as tickets.ie. For further information, visit finbarhobanpresents.com.
