Top Mayo accountant opens up about 'the reality' of his personal finances
A LEADING Mayo accountant has spoken openly about 'the reality' of his personal finances.
Castlebar-based George Gannon gave an interview to The Connaught Telegraph after District Court Judge Mary Devins made no order at Castlebar Court in a case taken against him by Bank of Ireland.
In the interview with Tom Shiel to be published in tomorrow's issue of the newspaper, Mr. Gannon tells how he faced up to the bank securing a judgement against him for €131,000 - the amount still owing on a €176,000 mortgage he secured for a house he purchased in Clifden, Co. Galway, in December 2008.
He reveals how his annual earnings had declined by 50 per cent in the two-year period (2007/2009) when he had a number of loan obligations, obligations 'which just couldn't be met on an interest and capital basis.'
Mr. Gannon was critical in court of what he said was the bank's refusal to engage with him in order to restructure the oustanding debt owed or to sit down with him and fully assess his expenditure, family and otherwise.
