Warning issued over mobile phone money scam

A WARNING has been issued over a serious mobile phone money scam.

Some users on set monthy contracts for calls and data have been receiving messages asking for payment of exhorbitant charges for 'internet services'.

A person contacted The Connaught Telegraph this morning to reveal the receipt of a message stating a spend in excess of €700 'since 01/04/07' and providing a link where the money should be paid.

The caller stated: 'I was in shock and I did not know what to do. So I immediately contacted my network to be told to ignore it as it's a scam. What a relief.

'The matter needs to be highlighted to let people know. An Garda Siochána should also take an interest.'
