Passing of retired Castlebar national school teacher

THE death has occurred of Mary Durkan (née Foy), Greenfields, and formerly of Thomas Street, Castlebar.

A retired member of the teaching staff of St. Patrick's Boys NS, Castlebar, she was remembered fondly by her past pupils.

A kind and good-natured personality, she was held in very high regard in the community where news of her passing evoked widespread regret.

She is survived by her sons Shane, Peter and James, brothers Patsy Foy (Dublin), Tommy Loftus (Dublin) and Martin Loftus (Breaffy), sister Antoinette Kennedy (Galway), daughters-in-law Kristen and Fiona, grandchildren Maeve, Kian and Alex, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law neices, nephews, extended family, neighbours, and friends, to whom sympathy is extended.

The late Mrs. Durkan was predeceased by her husband, Seamus.

Her remains will be reposing at the Thomas Street Funeral Home on Thursday evening from 5 o'clock with removal at 7 o'clock to the Church of The Holy Rosary, Castlebar.

Funeral Mass takes place Friday at 2.30 p.m, followed by burial in the Old Cemetery, Castlebar.
