Up to 15,000 attend Westport Air Show
THOUSANDS attended the Westport Air Show, which took place at the Quay in the seaside town.
As the sun shone down upwards of 15,000 lined Westport Quay to witness 12 acts performing in the skyline above west Mayo.
The Catalina Flying Boat, Irish Historic Flight Foundation, a flying dentist and farmer were among the aerobatic attractions.
The Breitling Wingwalkers, the world's only aerobatic formation wing-walking team, thrilled the crowds with their jaw-dropping manoeuvres as did Team Raven, a RV formation aerobatic display team from the UK.
In addition to the aerial displays, there were plenty of attractions on the ground to keep visitors entertained including a fun fair, food and craft markets, live music, street theatre and face painting.
Tom Gilligan, director of services at Mayo County Council, said: 'The Westport Airshow was truly a phenomenal success. It was great to see thousands of visitors in attendance.
'There was something for everyone from the activities in the sky to all the fun of the fair on the ground. Westport really was the place to be this weekend.'
'I thank all who made it happen. They did an excellent job organising and managing the event, particularly the emergency services.'
